MISERY doesn't love Company: Fans sweat Don Mattingly's Decision in Game 1 NLDS

It was absolutely miserable last night at Chavez Ravine...

                                                         Beautiful, but disgusting.

Rolling up to the Stadium was no "big deal."  Thank you, Magic Johnson.

And, the energy was absolutely electric.

What we didn't know was how electric Jacob deGrom's fastball would be in this static air that filled the night's sky. He was clocking regularly at 97 mph.

The fans were loud.  The sparsely placed Mets' Fans also attempted their chants, in unity, making sure that Dodgers' Fans knew they were present.  Personally, I respect that.  A visiting chant goes off like, "Let's Go M e t s .." It continues and builds amongst a handful of the orange, black, and blue littered about, and, soon enough BOOS rain down upon them, drowning them back to the rat-infested sewers from whence they came.  Which reminds me, "New York SUCKS" chants follow the BOOs to which a nearby Met fans turns to say, "Your team is From New YORK!"  Other Mets' Fans join in to help all of Los Angeles understand that the Dodgers originated from Brooklyn.

Aye, tis' true

But, I heard the reply that spoke for ALL of US,

"Yes, but they thought BETTER of it, and left.."  Just like so many do.

I digress

Although it hurt when Daniel Murphy hit that solo shot in the top of the fourth: the misery began earlier.

The fans started quieting down going into the third inning.  It was hot.  Game time temperature was reported as 92 degrees.  It felt warmer.  The crowd was a sell-out at 54,428.00  As you walked down the alley of the stadium towards the plate, the heat rose.  The were so many people and the air was completely still.

This may have only helped deGrom has he lit the Dodgers' lineup up fanning 13 in a record-setting NLDS performance combining with Kershaw for 24 (second most ever in a playoff game).

But, Kershaw had walks.  Four of them.

Three of which came in the fabled "seventh" to load the bases.  Without hesitation, Don Mattingly made the call.  He never went out like previous times.  Kershaw was yanked before Donnie Ballgame hit the chalk.

The entire TWC SportsNet panel were emo afterwards.  Hershiser may have led that charge and had this to say,

"
I would tell you this: in the seventh inning, he's (Kershaw) is pitching in a one nothing game.  The walks don't bother me at all.

He's pitching to get in the dugout with a ZERO.

so when he walks guys and he's taking the blame himself, he's thrown 113  pitches, he's walked the bases loaded,  he's Clayton Kershaw that's given up four hits.  One's a home run and he's in a one nothing game. He's walking a tightrope and he's trying to figure out a way to get his team in the dugout  with a ZERO,and he doesn't care if he has to do it with bases loaded and two outs.  He doesn't care HOW he gets em in the dugout! There was a sacrifice bunt, and a chopper. He wasn't getting hit! When he gets backed into the corner, with bases loaded 2 out, is he going to throw strikes to David Wright? He sure is! Right now when he's walking these guys he's trying to make meticulous pitches, to the corner, not give in to hitters because he's in a one-to-norhing ballgame."

 _Orel Hershiser

"And he (Kershaw)  knows that Curtis Granderson squared him up a couple times." _ J Hairston

"David Wright really wasn't swinging the bat well against Clayton Kershaw." J Hair

"I know and I feel bad talking about it because Don Mattingly is our friend.

It's an emotional decision for all of us." _ Hershiser

But, THIS is how I feel when Pedro Baez is asked to step in:

And, I feel this way because I saw him in preseason groove one to Albert Pujols.  It sickened me, thus I have this strange Pavlovian response when his name is called that evokes a gut-wrench, bordering on projectile vomit ever since that moment.  MISERY.

 Baez, Donnie? REALLY?

And, not only do I want to hurl when THIS hurl-er is announced but this happened too:

The lineup has changed for game 2 to possibly include more "pop."  Let's see how Kike and Yasmani fare.  My question is where are Puig and Jimmy Rollins?  Perhaps both HAVE fallen out of favor for different reasons but JR's veteran presence along with the huge "unknown" factor with Puig might pose more of a threat to the hard-throwing arms of the METS,

Nomar reminded the world how poorly the dodgers are versus velocity (something like .152 versus speed over 95 mph.)  OUCH.  That is miserable unto itself.

Gee, thanks Nomar...

Halloween? NOT at Chavez Ravine

I love the game of Baseball.

I've been a FAN of the

since I can remember (79/80) which puts me at age 7/8.

However, I am a baseball fan first and do my best to not get caught up in any "hating" on of another team or another player on the opposition.

Growing up as a Dodger Fan you're "supposed to" "hate" the Giants.  As you grow older, hopefully you realize that hatred, of any kind, is not the best attitude, right?

When I go to AT&T park for the "Dodger game," I find myself having good baseball talks with the fans around me.

I don the Dodger Blue and even engage in some friendly smack, but there is ALWAYS a mutual appreciation and respect.

This season, at Dodger Stadium, I noticed something that really got my blood pumping: Orange and Black colored LA Dodger hats.  My first thought was, "Nooooooooo, how can THAT be?!  Giants colored Dodger hats?!"

Dodger Blue or SF Orange?

I asked the representative at the "hat kiosk" about those particular hats and she informed me that THOSE are Pepperdine colored hats and they do sell.  With a rolling of the eyes I reply with a, "Well, that maybe true, BUT, as far as I'm concerned THOSE are San Francisco Giants colors and they should NOT be sold here."

Now, this MIGHT sound funny to you, the reader, but it is NOT to me.

I am just a passionate fan that although is "ok" seeing the Orange/Black colors AT the Stadium, I feel like THOSE should ONLY be of the visiting team they represent and NOT the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Would the Lakers sell a "Celtic Green" hat at Staples?  (hopefully NOT!)

I know I am not the only one that feels this way as I have polled many fans.  So, please, if you don't mind taking an extra moment out of your busy day PLEASE follow this link and "sign" my petition to REMOVE the Orange/Black LA hats from the stadium:

Thank you for your time and consideration

PS:  Orange and Black is Meant for Halloween NOT for
Los Angeles Dodgers

MLB Post Season: Dodgers Foam Party

The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings

A friend reminded me to watch The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings to be reminded of what Baseball is really all about.  I knew what he meant.

Sports certainly provide us with entertainment.

And, within each sport and each game there is certainly their own set of "unwritten rules."  These unwritten rules are spoken of, quite often, in the sport of baseball.

Recently, the

Dodgers beat the Giants 17-0

at AT&T Park in San Francisco.  Zach Greinke pitched in that game.  He also hit a home run.  The game was already WELL out of hand by THAT point (12-0).

The Dodgers, this year, have made it tradition that after a player comes back into the dugout after hitting a home run they all celebrate with a little dance under the fallout of the "Bubble Machine."

A Foam Party.

Now, it's fun AND Entertaining, but...

...is IT REALLY necessary to have a

Foam Party, in a visitor's park,

when the game is out of hand,

AND your pitcher goes YARD?!

Perhaps, one of the game's "un-written rules" under the heading "CELEBRATION," subset IV.2342 says, "when a game is out of hand, and your pitcher hits a home run, it is strongly suggested that
NO celebration occur."

Shit.  That's a lot of detail for an "unwritten rule!"

Whether Don Mattingly agrees with the Foam Party celebrations or NOT, the Dodgers have maintained this tradition during the season with no exceptions.  You have to respect that.  And, you have to respect that their manager allows "them," his team, to enjoy themselves how THEY want to.

Bottom line is this:

The Dodgers have had FUN this season.  The FANS, no doubt, have had FUN this season.

It is this ONE very key ingredient that may win them their first World Series Title since 1988.

Sure, they have Kersh and Greinke.  Matt Kemp, for all intent and purpose is BACK, and other guys in the lineup are stepping up.

But, I hope these Dodgers continue doing what they have established going back to last year.

Have FUN.

Don't tighten up and just let it fly baby, and if they start to forget a little bit about having fun just go back and watch some of this:

"Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings."

The REAL Matt Kemp?

Will the Real Matt Kemp Please Stand UP, Please Stand UP?!

In response to the attitudes expressed by Dodgers outfielder, Matt Kemp, during the season and sentiments expressed recently:

Reference: http://nesn.com/2014/07/agent-matt-kemp-not-opposed-to-trade-wants-to-play-in-center-field/

Dear Matt Kemp:

It has been very unfortunate and also sad to watch your demise.  A few years ago you were the game's best player and now you aren't even the fifth best on your team.  You have also been relegated to platoon work in Left Field.  We, fans and management, would love nothing more than to see you play everyday in center field but your arm, movement and batting have sort of shown otherwise.

The reality is that in yester-year's baseball economy you would not have gotten close to the 20M per.  But, you represent the changing economic landscape where teams are now willing to lock up and pay their stars before, or going into, their prime years.

Thus, no one could have predicted your unfortunate demise.  As a result, players like Puig and Van Slyke have had their opportunities and have shown to be BETTER than you.  So, what is Coletti supposed to do with a $20M per yr guy that hasn't produced nor been healthy since you signed your current contract?

I'm actually impressed with the Dodgers in that they have not forced you into the lineup because of your $ contract.  Right now, you're just "a guy.". You have shown and discussed your disgust about the outfield yet the Dodgers have needed every last outfielder due to injury.   In today's game, a championship team NEEDS to be loaded with all-star caliber talent to have a chance at the ring.  Of course there ARE exceptions to that rule.

This attitude by you has shown a lack of respect and appreciation for TEAM and cohesion.  That, combined with your poor performance, shows me that trading you might be the best option.  Your value has been diminished but has increased slightly due to some form of production of late.  Keep doing what you are doing so we (Dodgers) can trade you for more than a bag of peanuts.  We are willing to trade you as long as you hang in there, play hard, and TRY to put the TEAM ahead of YOU.  We will call the Yankees as they are known to be gluttons for self serving prima donnas, but do THEY have room? Pirates? Nope etc.

You see, Matty, everyone is aware of your demise except you.  Perhaps you suck it up, become more of a team player and ride this out to a WS ring if ALL goes according to plan.  Better yet, in borrowing  from a now infamous Dennis Green quote: BE who we thought you were!  Be the REAL Matt Kemp and go earn and take the everyday CF position rather than talk about it.

It's sad to think you would rather play everyday in CF, on a different team, over winning a WS.  Meanwhile, the Dodgers also have 2 prospects that are better than you so, quite frankly, you won't be missed

WELCOME BACK, KERSHAW

I don't think the music from Star Wars Empire Strikes Back was playing anywhere near the National's Stadium yesterday in Washington (May 6, 2014) when Clayton Kershaw returned to the mound for the Boys in Blue.

No Star Wars Theme Music needed for  Kershaw's Return on 5-6-14

Although no timetable was ever given,  many said Kershaw would make this season's US debut in June.  It was just a few  weeks ago and Clayton Kershaw still was not able to throw off a mound.

This is a recording from just 1-month ago where Kershaw talked about having patience: [CLICK FOR AUDIO]

Fast forward to April 26, 2014 and Kershaw threw five innings in a rehab start vs the Lancaster JetHawks.  Kershaw threw 56 pitches over 5 innings with 6 Ks and gave up two hits, 1 a homerun, to Carlos Perdomo.  Afterwards, Kershaw gave props to Perdomo.

Classy Clayton Kershaw.  True to form.  Playing a solid game and being an even more solid person.

The team missed you.  The fans missed you more perhaps.

Welcome Back.

"Who'd have thought they'd lead ya (who'd have thought they'd lead ya)
Back here where we need ya (back here where we need ya)
Yeah, we tease him a lot 'cause we've got him on the spot
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back"

-John Sebastian

And, on the spot was Kershaw in his return for the Dodgers on May 6th.  Mr. Kershaw threw 7 scoreless innings, threw 79 pitches and fanned 9 batters.

Don Mattingly had this to say about Kershaw,

""It's nice to have him back," Mattingly said with a smile. "He shows you right away what you've been missing."

Yes, Clayton Kershaw, WELCOME BACK!

and

Stay Classy
